Forest products include such cargoes as newsprint, woodpulp, linerboard, paper products and lumber. Each of these commodities can be imported or exported. These cargoes are handled in units such as rolls, pallets, bales, etc. The handling of these commodities is being done more and more on a distribution/load centre basis to be able to gain economies of scale through the purchase of specialized handling equipment and the ability to handle larger ships. Other port facilities are located near mill sites to reduce logistics costs.
